ONYX Chocolates is a Toronto-based artisan chocolatier rooted in craftsmanship, design, and flavour exploration. We create chocolates that are as visually considered as they are delicious—where form, colour, and texture matter just as much as taste.
Founded in 2017, our journey began at home, driven by curiosity and a desire to explore chocolate beyond the expected. Located in Toronto’s East Chinatown neighbourhood since 2018, we draw inspiration from our global travels and the rich culinary offerings of our vibrant community and neighbourhood. Every piece is handcrafted locally in small batches by our small team, allowing us to remain closely involved in every stage of the process.
Growing Through Community
In 2018, we partnered with Wong’s Ice Cream, brought together by a shared appreciation for bold, Asian-inspired flavour profiles. Working from a shared space allowed us to grow organically while staying closely connected to our neighbourhood.
This partnership gave us the opportunity to refine our craft, expand our reach, and introduce ONYX Chocolates to a wider community. It marked an important step from home-based beginnings into a public-facing presence shaped by collaboration and shared values.
A Space of Our Own
In 2023, we opened our own storefront in Toronto’s East Chinatown neighbourhood. This milestone allowed us to expand our creative expression beyond bonbons, introducing our own ice cream and soft serve gelato alongside our chocolates.
Staying true to our flavour philosophy, we developed a rotating selection that blends familiarity with curiosity—featuring flavours such as Coconut Pandan, Durian, Pei Pa Koa 枇杷膏, and our ever-popular 70% Valrhona dark chocolate. Whether frozen or tempered, every offering reflects the same care for balance, restraint, and thoughtful composition.
